Hotel Bellevue Palace Bern
Bern
Description
Situated in the heart of Bern, adjacent to the Federal Palace, Hotel Bellevue Palace stands as a symbol of Swiss hospitality and elegance. Established in 1865 by hotelier Friedrich Osswald, the original structure was replaced in 1913 with a neoclassical edifice designed by architects Paul Lindt and Max Hofmann. Throughout its storied history, the hotel has hosted numerous dignitaries, including Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II. During World War II, its bar became a notable meeting point for diplomats and intelligence officers. In 1976, to prevent foreign acquisition, the Swiss National Bank purchased the hotel, later gifting it to the Swiss Confederation in 1994. A comprehensive renovation in 2002 modernized its facilities while preserving its historical charm. Today, Hotel Bellevue Palace continues to serve as the official guesthouse of the Swiss government, offering guests a blend of tradition and luxury.
